Last night, I finally got the time to read Signal to Noise since I was too tired to do other things anyway. Besides, last night, the ambiance at home was perfect. Not too hot nor cold. No noise.
Too perfect.
I was a few pages in when my neighbor decided do guitar practice. You see, he’s not into the soothing, acoustic, musical variety. He does punk and rock – effects and all.
I know he plays well. I heard him before. Kid’s got talent.
Earlier the same night, with the TV tuned in a random channel in low volume, I heard a familiar tune. “Only One” by Yellowcard. I know the song so I sang along. With me wailing and another neighbor playing riffs, I’m sure the other neighbors were having a blast (or so I hope).
I took to reading again after “Only One.” Ten minutes into the book, I heard another familiar rhythm. This time it’s Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name Of.” Fuckit, I HAVE to record this, I thought.
I put the book down and started deleting files from my audio recorder. With a pack of cigarettes in my pocket (anticipating the long wait for them to finish their practice), I beelined for their living room window. I was surprised to see not one but TWO boys playing. Ralph and his older sib, Ron. Ralph is 12 while Ron is 15. They’re both sons of my landlord.
Here are two tracks off my “audio voyeurism,” as Bim puts it.

awesome guitar solo starts on the 47sec mark courtesy of Ron
I don’t know the title of this first song (please tell me what this is if it sounds familiar). He also did something during the 1min 47sec part. I don’t know what that’s called but it made my jaw drop.

pay attention to their guitar playing and not the vocals please XD
Second track is 30 Seconds To Mars’ “The Kill.”
Awesome. Three more years and they’d be playing in bars. Six for Ron.
Per their mom, she enrolled Ron in a basic acoustic guitar lesson long ago. He carries his tunes now by ear. Ralph was taught by Ron. The mom said that she can let Ron teach me. I said I’m OK with just my singing and thanked her.

My younger sister plays the guitar. I guess she’s good because her band won second place in a competition in their school but I cannot decipher what she’s playing. Haha.

I suggest a rock-off between your sister and my neighbor (sounding like the boy’s talent manager when he didn’t even know I was listening ad recording) XD

Does it hurt when you call somebody from your neighbor “kid”? I pause for a second whenever I realize Im no longer the kid in the neighborhood :(

Who needs to be the “kid” when you can be immortal? Besides, being the neighborhood kid for too long can be bad, lay-wise. Easy for me to say because I was never the likeable, bratty, or insolent kid. I remember feeling like the child that everyone wants to be all grown up in the shortest span of time.

SO did you get to finish Signal to Noise? (^_^)Y

I did. The next day, I think. I didn’t like it. Story was stretched longer than what’s necessary, IMHO.
