Next: Photos of the Better Cosplayers at the 9th ToyCon 2010 (Cosplay Day 2)
There I was at the 9th Annual ToyCon (Philippine Toys, Hobbies, & Collectibles Convention) 2010 despite the hot weather, EDSA being more congested than average, and the train having a rather bizarre number or banshees (more than the normal and more relentless relentless LOL). What I like love about this now-annual gathering is it attracts the largest number of cosplayers, IMO. There were years when I’d come if only to rummage the comicbooks section for back issues of Sandman and other DC Vertigo titles. Now, I chose to come for some snaps instead. The ToyCon, by itself, has also evolved through the times: a lot more stores in the venue, more big sponsors, more spectators and hobbyists, better organized, you’ve to pay in order to enter, and, to every photographer’s, stalker’s, and anime fans’ delight, more cosplayers.
Cosplayers have gotten better at making costumes, too. The details are well incorporated, materials used are more durable, and workmanship is obviously very refined. I managed to approach some who for me represent the best of yesterday’s (Saturday, June 19) lot. I realized too late that I should have asked their names and who they’re playing for the picture labels. My bad. If you can help me in that department, dear reader, do so by leaving a comment below so I can tag the photos with descriptions accordingly. It’s the least I can do to respect and laud the efforts they’ve spent to come up with faithful cosplays. (Last shoot I did for the ToyCon’s cosplayers was in 2008, I just realized. Check out the Bleach cosplayers here. My camera of choice then was a camphone. Good times!)
Today (Sunday, June 20, 2010) is the last day for this year’s ToyCon and I’ll be going there again to take snaps. The 9th ToyCon (2010), like old times, is being held at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall. If you’re cosplaying, do watch out for me, OK? I’ll make sure you won’t regret giving me a few seconds. Thanks to the great Azrael for the event invites!

Gee, I should have went there. Andun pala kayo! Sad Writer is sad. (frowns) Next time, I guess?
Nice photos, by the way! I find the Green Lantern and the last one badass. And oh… I know the younger sister of one of the cosplayers you featured (The one with the ghostly makeup is really good.).

Seriously? Help me know the name (a first name would do if they don’t want their last names on the web) + the name of the character she portrayed please? Super thanks man!

Animax had people fall in line in order for them to get shots of the sisters. Eh? Ano yan, Neil Gaiman autograph signing? LOL Yeah, cosplayers are very accommodating. Nobody turned me down. Di ata uso umayaw dun. Bilib din ako sa kanila. I saw you post, gusto ko yung wall climb na yan kaso pambata LOL

Hi there! ^^
Actually, I follow your blog for the Pet Society tips. :D Thank you, you really make it fun for me (at some point, I was hooked like crazy to the fishing). So I was pretty surprised to find that you have a photo of me during Toycon (I’m the weird all-white snow girl who looked more like a confused geisha bride). :D Is it okay if I grab it (with credits to you)? :) My mom always likes to see my cosplay photos, and your shot is really nice. <3
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough. Thank you very much for taking my photo! Looking forward to more Pet Society!

I don’t like this shot much because your face was out of focus and I only have a few shots of you (this was taken before you met saw a good friend with green knitted cap, I think, and lighting there wasn’t good). So sorry. Anyway, go grab, please! By all means.
I didn’t thing anybody read those things I wrote about fishing in PS. It was fun while it lasted and I entirely lost interest in maintaining the momentum this year. They’re time consuming to write, those articles! hahaha. Onga, medyo nakakasawa na sya nung later. So, there.
I hope to take better photos of you soon, better than this one I mean. Thanks Monique!
