Pet Society had been down most of the day Friday (August 15) but at around lunch time of the 16th, there was an announcement at the forums that the new Mystery Box items are already out (not that I’d care much LOL) and that there are some new things in the pond. I made a speculation in my previous post that the Catfish and Red Salmon should be due out this week and that hopefully the new rods should be, too.
EDIT: I was meaning to share a theory that I’ve sort of figured out. If you will notice, per DeSade13’s comment below, he claims to have caught 3 Red Salmon three times in a row using an apple. I think that with some fish, with the exception of the “food” fish and those that eat only a specific bait (like the Rare Steak for Piranhas and Carrot for the Sea Horse), the color of the bait will draw in fish of a similar color more. Red for red, brown for brown, etc, most of the time. Just thinking out loud.
Sadly, although there had been word that the Catfish is out in the wild, nobody can show a screenshot to support that claim. Let me say that again: No Catfish, No New Rods this week. There is, however, the Red Salmon and the Clam with Pearl (the pearl twinkles!) to look forward to! Enumerated below are the possible baits you can use to catch both, thanks to other users’ experiences as shared in the PlayFish forum. Be warned that since there are already a lot of fish in the pond from the past weeks, catching these two could pose as a challenge.
Red Salmon: Apple, Banana, Carrot, Cheese, Coconut (half), Corn, Grapes, Lemon, Strawberry, Watermelon Slice, Soft Serve (Strawberry), Brocolli, Chocolate Donut
Clam with Pearl: Apple, Carrot, Cheese, Grapes, lemon, Strawberry, Watermelon Slice, Loaf of Bread
As sort of an experiment, I used 50 Strawberries (6 coins each) in a continuous fishing spree and look what I got:
Message In A Bottle (3), Coral (4), Sea Star Baby Doll (5), Fish Bones (4), Golden Butterfly Fish (2), Carp (3), Conch Shell, Bike Wheel, Sheepfish (2), Paddlefish, Blue Sea Urchin Shell, Old Boot, Broken Pot (2), Sea Urchin (3), Empty Bottle (2), Schooling Bannerfish, Clam with Pearl, Red Salmon, Blowfish, Seaweed (3), Crab, Lovefish (2), Starfish, Bluegill, Green Discus, Blue Ram, Squid
As you can very well see, I got this week’s new fish pond items by using only Strawberries.
Going back to the Catfish, there’s this forum user (cat_55) who made made this post, showing her disgust on why there can’t be a Catfish:

I got the salmon using carrot.. I was trying to catch seahorse using carrot, but still no luck..
I also catch sea anomone using ‘this week special’ -> kolak

Well the color thing is true…. I got one clown loach with a chocolate bonut and another one with a banana, I also got salmon with strawberry. :)

I just observed that colored food wil most likely attract the same colored fish, better than other bait. Observation came from too much fishing LOL

I caught the Red Demekin Goldfish with a chocolate doughnut….it seemed kinda odd but I got it! I also just caught my first macaroon fish with white milk (jug) that seemed kinda odd to but i’m happy I got it! A couple nights ago I caught my 1st bananna fish with a bananna of course now i’m still on a mission to get the rest of the fish I don’t have!

i got my red salmon using a watermelon and i have almost every fish! just gotta get pesky bannana and cheese fish
