In the recently held 2008 Samsung Digital Imaging Roadshow in the Manila Hotel, Samsung has unveiled more than 20 new models of products ranging from point and shoot cameras to a full HD camcorder and a DSLR. You read that right. A DSLR complete with a variety of lenses that can suit your camwho-, um, professional and/or personal photography needs (whew, that was close). Kidding aside, think about it. With more than 20 options, an ideal personal solution for each consumers’ unique need may just be well within reach this time. At least in choosing a camera, that is.

Samsung NV24HD Digital camera
First in my wow-list is the classic-looking-but-ultra-stylish 10 mega-pixel Samsung NV24HD Digital Camera with a claim to fame to be the smallest 24mm ultra wide angled lens equipped with HD technology in the market today. Those plus H.264 video compression, dual image stabilization (both optical and digital), auto contrast balance (proposing a solution to backlight conditions), face detection (focusing up to 9 people at a time), smile shot (hah! Caught you smiling!), blink detection (oops! You blinked so I wait), and self portrait (a beep sound when you are centered in the picture for those self-pic moments) just made the Samsung NV24HD a force to be reckoned with in the compact point and shoot digicam category.
The best thing is, this sweet sweet gadget is already currently available in the Philippines (SRP as of March 27, 2008 is PHP 26,990).
Samsung GX-20 DSLR Digital camera
Next is the new Samsung GX-20 DSLR Camera. This baby’s features include a whopping 14.6 Mega Pixel APS-C size Samsung CMOS Sensor, 2.7” (approx 230k pixels) LCD Live View display, Dual Dust Removal function (with water & dust resistance feature), built-in Optical Anti-Shake, Precise Auto Focus, Multi-Exposure Shooting (2-9 frames), and more. Ideal DSLR for the outdoors, eh? As I’ve introed, this baby’s got a range of available lenses, namely:
- SAMSUNG 18~55mm F3.5~5.6
- D-XENON 50~200mm F4~5.6 ED
- D-XENON 100mm MACRO F2.8
- D-XENOGON 35mm F2
- SAMSUNG 16~45mm F4 ED
- D-XENON 12~24mm F4 ED
- D-XENOGON FISH-EYE 10~17mm F3.5~4.5 ED
- SAMSUNG 18~250mm F3.5~6.3
The GX-20 will be locally available soon.

Oh my Lordie.. would you know how much that DSLR costs?

We don’t know yet since they would most probably be available later this 2Q 2008. Will let you know if I get developments regarding this. They should at least set the price low enough to compete with the more popular DSLR brands so this would most probably be the case.

-_- Oh.My.Gulay. That I can’t wait to work full-time!
I’m kinda amazed at that NV24HD model. Not that I’m having a hard time with my point-and-shoot digicam, but owning a DSLR is the bomb. Plus a Wacom tablet. Hahaha!
Where art thine class cards, sires? I wanting to graduation faster! Diplomas gimme! I wanting to graduation!

But but the NV24HD is not a DSLR. The GX-20 is, though. Local price not released yet.

Umm…. um…. but…. but.. yes, I know. I just want one even if I dunno the difference between an excessively expensive digicam and a DSLR. Joke.

I’ve been lusting after Samsung’s NV series for a long time now, since The industrial design makes me drool. Unfortunately Samsung’s cameras are plagued with losts of noise, so I eventually settle don the Lumix LZ8, a budget camera that boasts of a 5x optical leica lens, 32mm semi-wide angle, optical image stabilization, full manual features, and an amazon price of 150 bucks. it just can’t be beat at that price.

You had me at the Leica mention. Monster specs and cheap ass. Good for you.
